My plan for January is to run the Marrakech Marathon on the 30th. Training Schedule
Morocco has extended the suspension of international flights through January 31st, so I will definitely not be running in Marrakech next month. Disappointing, but after the DNF in Hilton Head I don't think I would be up for a marathon in a month anyway. 29 December 2021 - Bäretswil - 4 km ![]() I did not feel well running this morning. Yesterday I managed to hit the side of my bad right foot on the bed and bruise it, adding to the pain of that appendage. Judging by the swollen glands in my throat it is probably a cold that is making it difficult to breathe, but more than once I had to slow my pace on uphills to catch my breath. 27 December 2021 - Adetswil - 3 km ![]() I actually made my goal mileage last week, which is kind of surprising. Paula has gotten better about sticking with me too. And Iwona even climbed a mountain with me through the deep snow yesterday. 23 December 2021 - Adetswil - 11 km ![]() 21 December 2021 - Adetswil - 7 km ![]() 20 December 2021 - Adetswil - 3 km Paula has become a nuisance to run with. She runs off and I have to stop and call for her. She used to be better about sticking with me, but has just gotten progressively worse this month. I'm hoping it's hormonal, because I can't just let her run free and hope she comes home later in such a populated area with leash laws. Ugh. She brings such joy to running though. I must find some way to resolve this conundrum.... 17 December 2021 - Adetswil - 3 km 16 December 2021 - Adetswil - 16ish km I went for a long run down to the Roman ruins to contemplate the impermanence of life. Along the way I lost Paula. And my phone died. Swimming laps in the pool again tonight I feel like my legs are a little retarded. With no baseball for months it's good to exercise my arms some. 13 December 2021 - Adetswil - 7 km I love running. Running is pain. Actually my right leg is kind of a mess and it's affecting my left too. I envy Paula's youth as she runs up and down the hills along the trails, sniffing and leaping through the snow. Times like these make me think maybe I'm getting old, but then I remember how many times in my life this stupid leg has has given me trouble since I broke it two and a half decades ago. 10 December 2021 - Adetswil - 7 km ![]() 9 December 2021 - Adetswil - 5 km This morning's run was through fairly deep snow and involved knocking a lot of snow off of branches so they would bounce back up and removing broken branches from the path. Still trying to figure out my foot - is an overtwisting of my ankle putting stress on the planar fascia of the inner underside of my foot? ![]() 7 December 2021 - Adetswil - 5 km ![]() 6 December 2021 - Adetswil - 4 km Dang my stupid foot hurts. Had a nice short run with Paula this morning through the woods, but as soon as I got back on the asphalt I could feel it. I'm sure it doesn't help that I'm up to 100 kg again. ![]() 4 December 2021 - Viuz-la-Chiésaz - 5 km Lavy des Cimes Kilomètre Vertical d'Annecy 1 December 2021 - Adetswil - 5 km Today's run was a good winter gear check for d'Annecy this weekend. Right foot is, unfortunately, still not 100%. I also had trouble getting the spikes to stay on my shoes in the slush. Hoping for ice on the trail Saturday🤞 ![]() 27 November 2021 - Hilton Head Island - 22 km ride ![]() 26 November 2021 - Hilton Head Island - 14 km ride ![]() 25 November 2021 - Hilton Head Island - 14 km ride ![]() 23 November 2021 - Hilton Head Island - 10ish km ride 22 November 2021 - Hilton Head Island - 12 km ride Today finds me at the doc in the box just outside the Sea Pines gate again. This is apparently my go-to location for silly medical forms. To get back into Norway through Amsterdam this spring I had to get tested for Covid-19. There was yet to be a European Covid passport system set up, so they didn't care that I was vaccinated. Today I'm here to get un certificat médical de non contre-indication à la course à pied en compétition for the race in France in a couple weeks. I don't remember needing one in Champagne two years ago, but apparently it's French law. That was a pretty small race though. I got the piece of paper I need and my blood pressure was 124/82, which is nice to know. ![]() 20 November 2021 - Hilton Head Island - 15 km ride This week has mostly been about biking because of my sore foot. Even driving for an hour with it yesterday was too much. We'll see how things go in France in a couple weeks. I'm still hopeful about Marrakech, despite the US state department advisory against traveling there. ![]() 18 November 2021 - Hilton Head Island - 30 km ride ![]() 17 November 2021 - Hilton Head Island - 19 km ride ![]() 13 November 2021 - Hilton Head Island - DNF ![]() I dressed up as Santa Claus because with the white beard people on the street yell that anyway. Road running is not the same as trail running. A blister formed on the bottom of my right foot which I ignored, but apparently it changed the way my foot hit the ground and I tore a ligament on my 5th metatarsel. After 15 miles my excellent (for me) pace dropped to a limping walk. No PR today, but stopping I think I avoided something more serious. And a nice English lady drove me back to the parking lot so I could get dad's car home. ![]() 6 November 2021 - Hilton Head Island - 11 km Today's run was through the rain and high water on the asphalt trails of Hilton Head, but for a change I took Duchess, my parents young dog, with me as we ran to the Salty Dog Cafe and back. The cool rainy weather was perfect for running, but the high water meant a lot of puddling and so I came home with extremely wet shoes. It was my first serious run here with Duchess, and I was happy that she fell into a rhythm after initially jumping into me wildly. 11 km was just enough to rile her up though, and she was excited for like half an hour after getting back home. ![]() 5 November 2021 - Hilton Head Island - 5 km 3 November 2021 - Somewhere over the Atlantic Today I signed up for a race to keep me training through the holidays: the Marrakech Marathon. Iwona really wants to show me Morocco and it's always good to head south in Winter. In the two months prior I'm planning to run a marathon in Hilton Head and a 1 km hill climb in the French Alps south of Geneva. |
