Today we had our first big family run since Run to the Beach at Kristen's wedding in 2018. This year Kristen's at home with new baby Jaxon, but she and Dillon still managed to run this past weekend (although he ran 10 instead of 5). The rest of us gathered in Johns Creek for a Turkey Trot 5K along the streets. I said we should all aim to best Kristen's time and they laughed at me. What? Not everyone runs all the time? Sometimes I'm too in my own head. This was my first race with my niece Ellie, but not her first 5K. She and Packie have been sick this week, but they still came to do their best. Jaime volunteered to stay with Ellie so Packie could run. We started off in the middle of the pack, but Brenton and I pulled ahead. He was able to keep up with me for the first mile, but hadn't really trained which caught up with him. Afterward he was disappointed, but Ken and I tried to console him and point out what a great learning experience it was. Ken had really put in the work training though, and it showed as he cruised in for a PR! I was so glad everybody could come out to run before our Thanksgiving dinner. |
