On November 30th, 2012 my dad visited Fort Sumpter and picked up several books. One of those which I have just completed reading is Douglas W. Bostick's The Union Is Dissolved! It concerns mainly the history of Charleston's role in the start of the War Between the States, and in particular the Federal defense and Confederate capture of Fort Sumpter. I was taken back in my own mind to the sailing trip there before I started college. South Carolina is the first state where I lived on my own and where two of my children were born, so it will always have a special place in my heart.
