2023 Goals Update30 April 2023 As we're now a third of the way through the year I think it's a good time to review where my 2023 goals stand. I've read 10 books so far, which puts me on track to read 30 for the year which is significantly off my goal of 50. I have raced in 2 new Swiss Cantons (Genève and Fribourg), which is halfway to my goal of 4. Similarly I've raced in 1 new country (Monaco), a quarter of my way to the goal of 4. I have not visited any new countries though. The Vesuvio Ultramarathon is a few weeks away, and I am feeling good about my abiliity to complete it although I am heavier (97.6kg) than I'd like. My thinking is that I will take the B2 German exam in the Fall. And I got close to seeing Zara last month when she said "maybe" to meeting for a coffee while I was in Bergen but Cara's hatred intervened once again. I'm not the first father who's had their children taught to hate them though. Hopefully one day Zara will move out and be able to re-evaluate her childhood outside of Cara's "terrible father" narrative. Her sisters somehow have not been able to do so, and done and excellent job of hiding themselves from any information that might deviate from their mother's narrative. My hope in meeting Zara this year is that she'll start to see me again rather than just the character her mother created to replace me. Overall it's not been a bad year so far, but clearly I'm not going to hit all of these goals. They are a bit of a headfake anyway, to point me in the direction I want life's journey to take. After all, all victory is fleeting and we are all just dust in the wind. Memento mori. |
