Bad SocksLast Blog | Books | Chemin Saint-Jacques | Index | Vesuvio | Next Blog 20 May 2023 Yesterday was the longest day of our 4 day hike on the Chemin Saint-Jacques, as they call the Via Jacobi in Romandie. We walked from Morges to Rolle after having walked from Lausanne to Morges the day before. The first day included the ruins of the Roman city LOVSANNA and lakeshore with houses just uphill. Yesterday, however, was mostly lakeshore in the forest with no houses, although we were routed uphill into a couple towns. Perroy was elder, with small streets and well kept old buildings overlooking vineyards down to the lake. I was racing through it though, to reach our campsite (see yesterday's video) by 18:00 when reception closed. The disadvantage of camping in this part of the world is that there aren't nice littel envelopes to put cash in as you squeak in just before twilight fades. There's always a lot of daylight left when you set your tent up. This has been Iwona's first camping trip since she was a teenager, but two days of carrying a heavy pack have taken their toll on both of us. Yesterday evening as I was hurriedly walking through Perroy I could feel the blisters forming on the pads of my feet, but I was in too much of a hurry to stop and investigate. Well, I had worn through my socks and if I had taken the time to stop and replace them I might not have blisters now to walk on for the next two days. Foolishness. ![]() |
