I'm always saddened reading about the Lost Cause that ripped my country apart and set it firmly on a path to Empire. Charleston Under Siege is another Douglas Bostick book that my dad picked up at Fort Sumter in 2012 and just as succinct and well-illustrated as the other two. The book details the defense of the city against the northern aggressors for the years they managed to hold out after firing the first shot at Fort Sumter. As is usual with such books there are copious sources from both sides to draw on and Bostick ties the narrative together well. Knowing the sad ending to the story doesn't make it any less exciting.
