So yesterday I got back my results for the German B2 test I took a few weeks back and happily I passed all 4 sections: reading, writing, hearing and speaking. This is a couple levels above what I need for a permanent residence permit, but a good bullet point for the resume. I picked B2 rather than C1 because I'm just not speaking it every day although one of my goals for year is to read more in the language. Three of nineteen books I've read so far for the year is not bad. So the B2 was something of a layup, whereas the C1 would have been a stretch. External validation is still nice though.
