When the movie version of Hillbilly Elegy came out a few years ago to rave reviews I watched and enjoyed it. It was a real story that anyone with a family could relate to. Then a couple years later I heard that the author, J. D. Vance, had been elected to the US Senate. I didn't pay attention to which party. And suddenly there he is standing next to Trump on this year's Republican ticket. So I bought Hillbilly Elegy the book and read it. As books often are, it was better than the movie. The book includes information about his father and his time in the marines. It shows how introspective Vance can be looking at his life, the people around him, and how they all got there. Tomorrow he'll also turn 40, which makes him the first candidate on a major party ticket to be younger than me. Donald Trump, on the other hand, is the 2nd oldest presidential candidate ever after Biden. Trump is older than Clinton is, and Clinton was elected president when Vance was 8. However you vote in November the book is still worth a read though.
