Race Timekeeping Gone Wrong

9 April 2025 - Bratislava

When I ran the Bratislava half marathon on Sunday I was in group B. Our start was about 3 minutes after group A, and I was toward the back so I crossed the startline with about 7 minutes on the clock. Fast forward to the end of the race and I saw 2 hours and 21 minutes on the clock. This led me to believe that I had a time around 2:14, which Strava confirmed. However, when I went to get my medal engraved, the time listed for me was 2:16:22. This was significantly slower than I expected (well, okay, only two minutes slower), but not 2:21:something, so I figured it must be correct. Today looking at the results to see what my splits were, I see that my 5K and 10K splits are also about 3 minutes off from what I remember. And then over in the far right corner is "Net-Time" at 2:13:50. WTF?!? It seems that they took my times from the overall start of group B rather than the start of the race or my chip time. I haven't ever seen this variant of timekeeping before, much less had my medal engraved with anything other than my chip time. As the kids would say, I am quite salty about this.
