20 October 2025 - Zürich

Yesterday was free day (no admission cost) at the Landesmuseum in Zürich, so we went to see the new exhibit on Carl Jung and other psychologists in Switzerland. One definitely comes away with the impression that the lunatics are running the asylum. Literally. One escapee from Burghölzli here in Zürich went to Ascona and started practicing psychoanalysis there. There are torture devices from the pre-twentieth century madhouses on display that one is advised "are fortunately no longer used", while two rooms later one sees twentieth century torture like electroshock therapy and men locked in solitary confinement with nothing but seaweed to dress themselves in. Progress indeed... In the 1980's the Swiss government was still seizing the children of minorities and forceably sterilizing them. Fortunately psychologists have moved past that where they now only have "gender-affirming care", where brainwashed children are sterilized with hormone treatments and gender-reassignment surgery while the information is kept from their parents. Based on the exhibition of Carl Jung's many artworks there, one could rightfully conclude that that was his true vocation. Unfortunately other psychologists got wind of this and realized that they could have the mental patients produce the art, steal it from them without compensation, and exhibit it unattributed "to protect their identities" (e.g. the Prinzhorn collection, parts of which were also on display). I am inescapably reminded of the pile of shoes at Auschwitz.
