20 October 2025 - Adetswil The previous book I read by Noah Charney was entertaining and informative, so I decided to pick up his newly published Slavic Myths that he co-wrote with Svetlana Slapšak. Half of the book, sadly, is about vampires and werewolves. I suppose that these are the most well-known mythical Slavic creatures, but I had hoped to learn more about the things I don't know in this book. The chapters are pairs of one tale and then one discussing the mythology surrounding the tale. In the afterward the authors admit that the book "is not a comprehensive handbook but a personal selection", so the reader is left wondering where these tales sit in the mythology while not really being entertained either. As such, Charney disappointed me.
