Amsterdam could have been a good film. It starts off with a mystery. Then there is a war story about friendship and then love. Side note: we also learned that Iwona had no idea that the US fought in WWI. Had they tied up the murder mystery with it just being a murder mystery, then the film would have been excellent. There are so many excellent actors that have small parts. Only Taylor Swift's performance falls flat, but fortunately she is the one murdered mysteriously at the outset. The film really veers off course when Robert Deniro shows up though, and the murder mystery morphs into a fascist plot by industrial executives to overthrow the US government and install a dictatorship. He gives a preachy political speech while for some reason there are Nazis fighting black soldiers in the audience. They managed to create three protagonists I love and then completely sideline them during the climax. Terribly disappointing.
