Nina Kunz's collection of essays, Ich denk, ich denk zu viel, is thoroughly witty and entertaining while her subjects range from light to heavy. I picked up the book last year during Zürich liest and the city features in many of her stories, not least of which "Und ich liebe sie doch" (and, yet, I love her) which complains about the city somewhat in the form of a humblebrag. The book is broken into three sections: Sinnkrisen (existential crises), Selbstzweifel (self doubt), and Sehnsüchte (desires). Kunz is critical of everything from feminism to comfort food, but especially herself. Her coinage of the term "happychondria" is an apt description of our reaction to the modern world always asking "are you happy?" While I certainly was smiling whilst reading her book, I can agree the dopamine-seeking aspects dominating culture are pathological. And while she may claim to read to excess, I think a book a week is perfectly normal. We are fortune that Kunz will likely be writing for many years to come.
