Transylvania Training 2026
29 January 2026 - Ilanz - 5 km
24 January 2026 - Ghöch - Hohenegg - Bauma - 8 km run/hike Iwona hiked the first couple clicks with me and then the dogs and I took off around Sunnehof and she went back. There were cars going back and forth on the road to Bauma I ran up over the summer for the Berglauf Cup, so we headed off on the trail to Hohenegg to go through the woods. It was a great idea up to Hohenegg, but then coming down the very, very steep trail into the Lochbachtobel the trail was just ice. This made going hard for me as I tried to avoid taking the quicker route down the cliffside with ill-placed footing. We survived, but it certainly wasn't running!

21 January 2026 - Chämptnertobel - 7 km Back together with my puppos!
20 January 2026 - Avignon So France hasn't been great for moderating my alcohol intake, but it has been for running. I'm also disappointed that I didn't take the time to run around Avignon's city walls to circumnavigate the city. But I have seen and learned a lot in the past few days, not to mention copious amounts of walking. 18 January 2026 - Nîmes - 7 km
17 January 2026 - Caveirac - 12 km
15 January 2026 - Erlenbach - 3 km 14 January 2026 - Altendorf - Schmerikon - 19 km hike
13 January 2026 - Erlenbach - 5 km Slipping & sliding on the forest trails we couldn't go too fast.
The weather has turned from snow to rain sadly, and it's not supposed to dip below freezing at all during the next week. The pond I skated just few days ago has holes with open water. Iwona wanted to go sledding in the remaining snow after lunch today, but it was just kind of miserable in the rain. Today we went sledding in the deep newly fallen snow while the dogs hunted mice.
8 January 2026 - Wetzikon - 10 km In the morning I got to go skating before the weather turned. But this even was a clusterf$@k of a run. I knew it would be challenging when the snow turned to rain on the way down to Wetzikon from Bäretswil, but I brought my spikes. I had to pee, but the bathrooms were closed, so I waited for the woods. Not far into the woods I lost the spikes from both shoes in the slush of the trail. Then I fell. A lot. Nature called again, requiring a longer pit stop, but through it all my Lauftreff friends waited for me. "Today is not your day, is it, Bradley" laughed Daniela. On the way back we did find one of my spikes though 🤪 6 January 2026 - Erlenbach - Meilen - 10 km Another lazy midday run with Paula.
5 January 2026 - Adetswil - Wetzikon - 7 km ![]()
4 January 2026 - Erlenbach - Zürich - 12 km A lazy midday run in the sunshine along the lakeshore. Then in the evening Iwona and I relaxed at Bad Zurzach.
2 January 2026 - Richterswil - Altendorf - 24 km hike Up from Richterswil between houses and apartments to Schindellegi. Then along the Sihl uo to where it's joined by the Alp. This was followed by fields and forests climbing up to Etzel and then down to Pfäffikon. The down part from St. Meinrad I've down before. From there it's flat along the lakeshore to Altendorf. We will all sleep well tonight!
I have to admit that Malaysia is not going to happen because I just don't have the funds for it. 30 December 2025 - Chämptnertobel - 7 km
29 December 2025 - Stoffel - 8 km
I'm changing up the stats I track a bit, making goals explicit, taking out hiking which I can't seem to track well, adding in a column for average km ran, and also dry days because I think this correlates with performance and I'd like to reinforce that with myself. Week 1 of 2026 also actually starts Monday the 29th of December, so I will start recording here then. Today I signed up for a pair of races in 2026 in Malaysia and 🦇Transylvania🦇, so here we go again with the training plans! The Transylvania race is a 50K starting from Bran Castle of Dracula fame. |
