1 June 2026 - Erlenbach

Star Trek IV features an excerpt of the D. H. Lawrence poem "Whales Weep Not". I memorized the Star Trek movies growing up, so I came into the book already being able to recite a bit of D. H. Lawrence. And a lot of his poetry in Selected Poems is about animals! I've enjoyed a poem or two many days for the past year since I picked up the book at the Lesebenk at the top of the hill in the forest of Erlenbach.

They say the sea is cold, but the sea contains the hottest blood of all...

Poetry is a magical thing. That can take you to places that you have and haven't been. Share animals you have and haven't ever met. Introduce dreams, only to snap them back again. D. H. Lawrence is a master craftsmen of this art, and I shall have to explore more of it than was selected here by Penguin Books in 1972.
