16 August 2026 - Staufen This month's race was a bit spur of the moment as I signed up Friday for today's Staufberglauf. It wasn't actually up a mountain (berg in German), but around it several times on the flatlands. And, as a 10K, it represents one of the rare standard distance races in Switzerland. Often it's 51K or 24K or 11.3K or 7K or some other random distance rather than the standard marathon, half marathon, 10K and 5K. Having run many 10Ks over the years I thus knew what time to expect: around an hour, hopefully a little bit under. Four years and twenty pounds ago my 10K time was closer to 50 minutes. It was a fun race with plenty of hydration stops to counteract the heat and in the end I ended up at 1:00:56. It is nice to have empircal verification of my current fitness level and visit a new town on the Aargau plain. ![]() |
