10 September 2026 - Monedeyres I picked up a copy of Victor Hugo's novel, Le Dernier Jour d'un condamné, in the old train station of Saint-Sauveur-en-Rue. It is a cold, depressing book befitting the cold, depressing weather of the past couple days. Still, it is always good to, as the old Latin saying goes, momento mori. There was none of the gallows humor like one finds in Johnny Cash's 25 Minutes To Go, although the topic is the same. I suppose the guillotine is more serious though... ![]() |
