Gear Filled With Memories |

As I set out for another adventure today I am struck by memories. My backpack from REI when I lived in Atlanta decades ago. My sleeping bag picked up in a Silicon Valley Walmart to take my kids camping amongst the California Redwoods and then the glaciers of Iceland, where it was definitely not warm enough. The books I'm bringing to read that I picked up at McKay's in Knoxville and have sat in my tsundoku pile for who knows how long. The shoes I got in Germany because Switzerland doesn't carry the wide sizes of New Balance. The Snusmumriken socks from Askøy. The shorts from Wrocław. The t-shirt from a conference in Nashville. The hat I picked up where I was working in Lausanne because I forgot to bring one. The tent I bought in Saint-Jean-Pied-du-Port at the foot of the Pyrenées when the one I was carrying (from that same Silicon Valley Walmart) busted a pole. The pocket knife I got for running the Greifenseelauf for the first time. The journal that I picked up at a conference in Graubunden. The tiny swimsuit I had to buy in France because my US one was considered too big for the campground pool. The swimcap I had to buy in Spain because municipal pools require them there. The towel I picked up when I took the kids to Greece. The toilet paper that I bought at the Coop in Erlenbach...
I am excited to be heading out on the road again!
