Else Hueck-Dehio's Tipsys sonderliche Liebesgeschichte is mostly fluff. It's value is in the nostalgia capturing a lost world of German-speakers in Estonia after before country had been annexed by the Soviet Union. The story is of a young girl, but Hueck-Dehio gives us a rich cultural picture including explaining local Estonian terms the mid-twentieth century German speaker was unlikely to know. Which is exactly why I read the book. Doubtless when it was published in 1959 readers could still remember that world now gone.
I am excited to be heading out on the road again!
