Via Gebennensis

Jongieux - Saint-Genix

France

Trails Index | Via Gebennensis

This segment starts with a climb up through vineyards to a chapel that was once a place of worship for the Roman god Silvanus. Then there is a steep descent down to the flat Rhône valley before crossing the valley through fields to the Rhône. Then it's a couple kilometers along the river to the town of Yenne, another good place to resupply and get a coffee or a meal. Thereafter begins the long (over 600m) climb up Mont Tournier. The views down to the Rhône are breathtaking, but the trail is often not far from cliff's edge. Then it's the same amount of descent to Saint-Genix on Le Guiers river. It's wise to break this segment up.
