Storehesten, also known as Kvamshesten, towers over the hills south of Førde with it's sheer rock walls the locals have likened it to a horse, hence the name. Reminds me a lot of Devil's Tower in Wyoming actually, being that it's also igneous rock although there's a pretty obvious unconformity toward the bottom of the rock face on Storehesten. There is a cleft up the western side which only requires a little bit of climbing. There's an annual hillclimb called the Storehesten Opp which I participated in in 2020. It circles around the eastern side and up back to reach the passable cleft to the west. Along the path up on the eastern side there is also the Skaraly hytta on a ridge next to a waterfall which provides respite from the elements and a spectacular view. Be aware there's a toll payable by cash or Vipps to drive the road up to the parking lot.
