Santigo de Compostela - Negreira

Trails Index | Camino de Santiago

Leaving the crowds at the cathedral in Santiago, the path descends into the forest to the west. The trees are primarily eucalyptus and oak. The ground is covered with ferns. The path is a sunken road lined with stone walls along much of the way for 8 kilometers. Then there are several kilometers downhill through towns before a sharp incline on several hundred meteres through the forest. Fields and small towns follow until the Camino hits the Tambre river with a beautiful crossing on an old medieval bridge at Ponte Maceira. Then one follows the Tambre on to Negreira.
