Today we signed dad up for hospice. He had already stopped chemo, but now he is just going to get palliative care. The focus will be on keeping him as comfortable as possible - palliative care - rather than healing his cancer. It seems that with our current medical abilities that's impossible. It's a place every one of us will find ourselves, death's door. Fortunately dad's pain is well managed. His physical and cognative decline is proceeding apace, but he is surrounded by family. Dad is letting go of things. He defers to mom about most decisions, but I've been put in charge of baseball cards and music records. I'm still his little boy.
