It was a real treat getting to play with Ellie and Marshie, and their energy level was high enough that I've really slept well the past couple nights. I got them coloring books to occupy them, but when they arrived Friday night after 7 hours in the car sitting still coloring was not something that occupied them very long. So there was a lot of wrestling and running around and looking for games and toys because most things are packed up for the house's renovation. All the energy was a bit too much for dad over the course of the 40 hours they were here, so we had to limit the number of people in his room. On Saturday Jaime came over with Lexi too which was even more. Meanwhile I left to run the local marathon (unfortunately I hurt my foot rather than finish), only returning around lunchtime. So in the afternoon Packie, Jaime and I sat with my dad and just laughed and told stories around him until he was completely worn out. Mostly I played with the kids though, so Packie and Ansley could get time to talk to dad. The kids don't really understand death of course, but Ellie did understand her mother crying. It was hard for them to leave this morning, because my brother knows he's never going to see our dad again. I'm so glad they could make it down for the weekend though, to make a few more memories saying a proper goodbye. ![]() |
