CharlotteLast Blog | Index | Next Blog Books | Project Ninety | Training 5 January 2022 - Charlotte Last week Iwona and I watched Fight Club. She'd never seen it before and it's been about two decades for me. I've read a number of Chuck Palahniuk books since, convincing me he has a really unusual way of looking at the world. Consider the amount of time I spend on planes it's not surprising that I've been thinking about it more. Every American city, it seems, has a different approach to covid rules. In Philidelphia they were nuts to the point of emptying out restaurants by forcing everyone to show proof of 2 vaccines or negative tests results. The airport announced stiff fines for not wearing masks over the loudspeakers. The magic of eating or drinking something making one immune continued though, even outside of the now restricted restaurants. Charlotte is more low-key, just warning of potential fines and letting anyone into their restaurants. Most passengers here are masked when not magically protected by eating or drinking, but the number of people with noses out means they're compliers rather than true believers. Quite a few of the airport staff, however, wore the mask on the chin or not at all. It amazes me how we all just gave up on freedom. Or I guess disappoints me is a better word. I don't want to live in a world where I have to show government papers to do anything, but that's the sort of world that's being built around us. Ausweis, bitte. |
