Evrenseki, Aspendos, PamukkaleLast Blog | Index | Next Blog Books | Project Ninety | Aspendos | Training 8 March 2022 - Denizli We started off the day enjoying the beach for a few hours after breakfast, swimming in the cool Mediterranean and laying on the beach. Then we did a bit of shopping in the bazaars, but unfortunately they seemed to just stock fake designer clothing, perhaps to cater to the Russian clientele. After noon we headed to the ancient city of Aspendos to get a look at a Roman theater that's so well preserved it's still in use and the remnants of an aquaduct over a kilometer long with two rather sharp turns. After another incredible afternoon in the ruins of another ancient city we were treated to another local delicacy, gözleme, by the sweetest old couple and their son. The woman was quite proud of her traditional production of the dish and wanted us to watch and film. Then we had a long drive on D400 back though Antalya to D650 to E87, on which we spent many hours driving through the sometimes dry, sometimes snowy Toros mountains. It was quite reminiscent of the western states of the US and the highway was surprisingly just as good. Turkey really is a European country! Arriving here after 4 hours in the car we were greeted by a mountain of travertine, deposited by the hot springs we are now enjoying at our hotel. |
