Back to Bergen, Again

Today finds me again on planes to Bergen. It's always at least two planes to Bergen on the edge of the known world. It used to be the northernmost Hanseatic city, dominating the cod trade from the Norwegian coast. Trondheim is further north and was the seat of kings before the Union of Kalmar. Tromsø is still further, but was only a temporary summer settlement before the nineteenth century. Svalbard was just a summer hunting ground before Longyear came from Michigan and began coal mining. Bergen is still the far north for most, and the size of Norway beyond that is something most don't bother to comprehend. Here be dragons. Here also are Maxwell and Zara, two pieces of my heart. I am looking forward to seeing them both.
