MontreuxLast Blog | Index | Next Blog Fifty | Garden | Ninety | Pics | Twenty-Five 1 August 2022 I spent the weekend in the lovely little lakeside town of Montreux. The event for the weekend was the Montreux trail festival in which I ran the 15K - not the shortest race but quite shorter than most. I started a bit late because my nap alarm was set for AM rather than PM, so my time was not official. It was a night race up the hill from the Montreux lakeshore with about 900 m of vertical gain. Mostly I was dodging rocks and roots on the side of a cliff while trying to shine my light through the dark. At the top of the hill around the eight or nine kilometer mark they had a band and a beer stop. Coming down through the dark we found the way somewhat difficult to find although it was marked with reflective stakes. At the finish line on the lake I enjoyed another beer and then went for a swim under the stars. Back in my hotel I met a nice Chinese fellow who also could not sleep because of the heat. We shared our various tales of travel and trying to get back to our respective homes from Europe during the mess that was the pandemic. The night's sleep was short and after breakfast I spent the better part of the day walking along the lake. To the south of Montreux at Chillon is a castle made famous by some poetry of Byron. ![]() |
