As you can see in the video above I got quite an early start. It's getting up to 34°C, so I'm currently hiding in a cool stone albergue in Castildelgado. After passing Cirueña in the dark I got to Santo Domingo de la Calzada as the sun was coming up and all the camineros who spent the night there were heading out. I stopped for coffee and a croissant and a much needed break after knocking out 11 km before 7 AM. It was already getting hot went I left town around 8. The most important thing I've found is to refill my water bag in every town. When it's hot I easily go through those 2 liters in 5 km. On this section there were trees on the north side of the camino protecting us from the sun, which was just fabulous! The next town was Grañon and as I climbed the hill approaching it I heard piano music. Up the steps into town was a food truck with fresh squeezed orange juice by a park with tables and chairs set up by under the trees. After OJ and rest I headed on and met Mona, who is here from Deutschland although she started on the border with France. Already she has experienced a miraculous healing of her numb toes during a mass in Logroño. She was skeptical that attending mass was actually the reason and not the three days rest she'd taken and the creams she'd gotten at the pharmacy to improve circulation, but it seems like she's trying to build her faith on this pilgrimage so I didn't ruin it. In Redecilla del Camino I stopped and had a radler, but it was only 11, so I decided not to stay and write yet but to travel on to here. I'm writing about the sections of the Camino de Santiago de Compostela in the trails section of my website, and I link to it from the header of my blogs from now until I'm done. I've booked a ticket from Santiago on the 4th, although I think now that that was way to ambitious and I shall have to come back and finish the last few sections later.
