Camino de Santiago de CompostelaCalzadilla de la Cueza - Bercianos del Real CaminoLast Blog | Index | Next Blog Camino | Fifty | Garden | Ninety | Pics | Twenty-Five 27 August 2022 Last night was cold and I did not sleep well. This despite having logged 37 km yesterday, many of them in the hot sun. Ergo I was slow to break camp this morning. I was in the forest though, so it didn't matter so much. The sound of hunters' rifles going off did make me a bit nervous though. I've been surprised to see them so near the Camino the past few days. In Ledigos I grabbed an OJ and a Coca-Cola before walking for a while with an older Irish couple. I was trying for a brisker pace though. I refilled my water bag in Terradillos de los Templarios, and then caught up to Minji (my Korean friend) and a Dutch girl walking with her. We ended up breakfasting together in Moratinos. Minji had bussed ahead some which why we were together again. She and Matti (my Swedish friend) are the two that I've seen most often and connected with so far. I left the women there to hurry off and try to make lunch in Sahagún, which I did. Along the way I passed two imposing statues outside of town that marked the halfway point along the Camino. I've accepted that I won't finish this round, so this was a bittersweet moment. I imagine the Catholics treat them as a gate of plenary indulgence or something, as the hostess of the church nearby tried to sell me an official certificate of passing with my name on it. So after a Hawaiian pizza I'm spending the afternoon in a cool bar drinking radlers and writing before I begin my evening peregrinations. ![]() La Mitad de Camino |
