RunnersLast Blog | Index | Next Blog Fifty | Ninety | Twenty-Five 7 November 2022 Runners are some of the best people I've ever met. Running teaches us so much about ourselves. Setting a goal and failing comes with the territory and runners learn to have more realistic expectations for themselves and create better training plans to achieve them. Running teaches us humbleness as what runner hasn't been on a long run somewhere and unable to find a restroom? Shitting behind a bush and wiping your ass with leaves is an experience none wants to repeat, but we all know is an unavoidable part of training. Running teaches us compassion, as the community worldwide is one that helps the least of us to rise to something better. All runners are fighting the course, and see eachother as compatriots on our common battle to finish. I have run with olympians and I have run with people just starting out; at both ends of the spectrum runners are just trying to be a better version of themselves. In Prague they have a mantra that All Runners Are Beautiful, and I really think that we could all benefit from adopting that perspective to life. Everyone is struggling through it; sometimes evening DNFing. |
