Pilates Is Just Yoga

Today was my first pilates class. I had thought that pilates involved rolling around on large balls, but today we only used mats. The class was a free one as part of Active City Wetizkon. Although there were no large balls to sit on, challenging my expectations, the class was all women besides me, which met my expectations and is one of the reasons why I have never tried before. Interestingly pilates is named for the German Joseph Pilates, who developed exercises as a POW on the Isle of Man during World War I. The pilates class I attended today involved lots of poses I know from yoga and movement in time with breathing, which I've also seen in yoga. So how is it different from yoga? I think the association with Hinduism puts some Christians off of yoga, and because pilates has a different branding perhaps it's okay for them. I can't see any other reason that the name has persisted so many decades after the death of Pilates himself. But tell me what you think:
