25 April 2025 - Österreich

On the train in Österreich for the second time this month. This time I'm not going beyond Vorarlberg, the region bordering Schweiz. My plan was to run another half marathon on Sunday, but with the cold that's dragged me down the past couple weeks that doesn't seem realistic anymore. Still, even if I downgrade to the 7K it will be another country that I've run a race in.

Since vacation ended I haven't had time for much else that being sick and working, but last night I did get out to meet up with some fellow GA Tech alumni in Zürich. Decades later and these are still my people. Admittedly there were only 3 of us, but it was still fun to talk to not just Americans, but some helluva engineers.

While I was on vacation the world economy had the shock of Trump imposing tariffs willy-nilly and then blinking and rescinding them when markets tanked. I'm glad that at least some of the discussion has hit on the fact that American presidents have too much power rather than just deriding Trump personally.

Vice president J. D. Vance visited the Pope for Easter, after which the Pope immediately died. Coincidence? Would be fun to stir up a conspiracy theory that Vance killed the Pope...

Upside to Trumps chaos is that the dollar is way down relative to the Swiss Franc, so I've been able to lock in a significant savings on dollars in debt I need to repay vs. when I spent them last year.
