11 May 2025 - Schweiz This Spring I have begun the project of hiking the Alpine Panorama Trail in earnest. It's labeled as the #3 trail in Switzerland and portions overlap with the #4 Via Jacobi which I completed last May, so I've already hiked those. Last weekend I hiked a 30 km segment (33 km according to Strava) with the dogs and I've hiked a couple other parts of segments around 10km this month. I need to switch out my sneakers though. The soles of my current pair have worn bare and are hurting my right foot (the bad one where I broke the tibia and fibula in high school playing football). It's nice to have a goal where I can check off something every week. Yes, I know I have weekly running and reading goals, but those are effectively infinite (at least mentally despite my definitively finite lifespan). And unlike my goal to run a race in every Eurpoean country that I only get to check one off sporadically. Although I did bag three last month. And I watched a really inspiring Norwegian film, På Villspor, this week, so now I want to ski the Birkebeiner. But maybe the local Engadin Skimarathon first. I was able to ski 15 km in Geilo four years ago no problem, so it doesn't seem unrealistic if I train up a bit this Winter. This week I also read an interesting dual biography of Linnaeus and Buffon entitled Every Living Thing. |
