When I was small, the Rankin/Bass anitmated films were some that my dad tape to taped and I could watch anytime on the VCR. The Last Unicorn was not my favorite, but the story is still seared into my memory because I watched it so many times. Just like The Hobbit. While I read that and The Lord of the Rings in high school, I just now got around to reading Peter Beagle's The Last Unicorn. I was not disappointed; and not just because I was circling back on an earlier period of my life. It's just a great fantasy novel. Magic. Unlikely heros. Frightening villians. And, of course, a quest.
