Enjoying a beer in the dining car of the SBB as I travel across Switzerland is not what I expected to be doing this year. Finding that I suddenly have an abundance of free time I've decided to continue my Camino across Europe by walking some more of the French route. Two summers ago I started off in Moissac and walking part of the Via Podiensis to the Pyrenées, before finishing the eastern and western segments of the Camino in Spain. Today I am going to the French border to begin the Via Gebennensis, named from Genève where it starts. I have no set plans; only a file of paper maps and a bag of books to read. As on prior pilgrimages I have plans to camp along the way and aim to average 25 km a day. And practice my French, of course.
