Meine PilgerschaftLast Blog | Index | Next Blog Fifty | Garden | Ninety | Photos | Twenty-Five 7 May 2022 Heute habe ich meine Pilgerschaft begonnen. While I find the Catholic church to be parasitic and terrible like most religions, I like trails and Nature and a bit of suffering. It makes you stronger after all. Today we started in Einsiedeln at the cloister and after listening to a bit of singing, having a beer, lighting a candle, and buying some souvenirs, we headed down the pilgrim's road, Via Jacobi, toward Pfäffikon. This being the Pfäffikon that's home to Alpemare rather than the Pfäffikon on the Pfäffikersee. I think the names have something to do with pepper (Pfeffer), but I honestly haven't looked into it. The road from Einsiedeln is one people usually come up, being that the direction is toward Santiago de Compostela in Spain. This is typically the end destination of a pilgrimage. Our plan, however, for the Via Jakobi is to do it in bits and pieces on weekends when we can. Maybe we will make it to Santiago at some point. Maybe not. Still I like the idea of a journey, even if the goal is not not my purpose. And so our journey was down, away from Santiago, and we suffered it slowly. My left knee made sure to that. Paula would have had us at a much faster pace, but she thankfully acquiesced to share the road with the slow humans. We completed our 15 kilometers and have only a few hundred to go. ![]() |
