Lazy Weekend

Fifty | Garden | Ninety | Twenty-Five

11 September 2022

Back in regular life for a week - just a week since I flew from Spain - and I'm not sure much is different. But I'm different. My feet are healing up, yes but I mean on the inside. I feel this state of calm. Food. Water. Shelter. Community. I have all these in abundance. And Iwona and I are back together instead of connecting over the internet for moments during the day. Our reunion on the Swiss Riviera last Sunday was just pure joy. We both love being in the water, although she is more serious about swimming than I am. Yesterday we both enjoyed spending the morning reading and drinking coffee in bed. We bought some new plants for the garden. And in the evening we drove down to Bad Zurzach on the Rhine, where they drilled a hole four hundred some odd meters down into the Earth to bring up water at 40°C. Before that the town was just called Zurzach, but now there's a large complex to sit and swim in the waters. Just a perfect Saturday!

In the wider world there is still much amiss. Grandma is in the hospital after a fall, but she's managed to outlive the queen who was born the same year. Brittan was bitten by a copperhead snake while camping but is recovering ok - I'm glad to hear she's still taking the time to enjoy the outdoors during the trial that is grad school. High inflation is eroding savings. The war rages on without a foreseable end in Ukraine. Chileans rejected that ridiculous woke constitution. China's predatory lending to poorer countries is making an economic downturn more difficult; the most egregious example so far is Sri Lanka. But at least there's been no invasion of Taiwan, and you know the world has really gone a strang way when I find myself praising Nancy Pelosi and her timely state visit there.
