Looking Back at the End of August29 August 2021 - Askøy August will soon be coming to an end. It has been one of the best Augusts I've had in years. Between having Maxwell at work, to the magical trip to Poland, to playing baseball, to the wonderful people in my life, to running in the forest, etc. I'm starting to think I have maybe finally slain the malaise that accompanied this time of year for so many years. Looking at the blog topics at the end of August in previous years... 2020 - a blueberry muffin recipe2019 - ferry riding 2018 - a poem to my then wife 2017 - vampires Louis & Armand as allegory of an American in Europe 2016 - flying to Europe the first time 2015 - Maxwell hair combing 2014 - Maxwell's first cross country meet 2013 - trusting hosting photos on Shutterfly 2012 - misidentifying a bovine skull from the backyard 2011 - a video doing puzzles with Zara (YouTube took down?) 2010 - lists of states visited 2009 - blogging about our California roadtrip 2008 - Cara's blogging 2007 - an article written about me in SLAC Today 2006 - a mishap with our basil plant 2005 - publishing grandpa's correspondence on Wogsland.org 2004 - frustration with the kids' teachers As looking back over the years often does, compiling this list just overwhelmed me with memories - both happy and sad. Looking back on this month though, it's just happy. I think running for my birthday really is the best way to celebrate it. And I have also built a solid group of connections around me that gives life meaning. |
